Poros, located in the Saronic Gulf just 58 kilometres south of Athens, is a picturesque island made up of two parts: the volcanic Sphairia, home to the main town, and the limestone Kalaureia to the north. HOTEL new aegli
The beachfront New Aegli Hotel is situated in Askeli Bay, just 1.5 kilometres from Poros Town. This gives us direct access to many of our swim start points, with the support boat picking us up from the beach jetty. All rooms are air conditioned, with free Wi-Fi, and a mini-fridge.ROOM OPTIONS

ITINERARY
All swim activities are planned with safety at their heart. Open-water swimming is always governed by the weather, and as a result planned swims may need to be changed, depending on the prevailing conditions at the time.SATURDAY

SUNDAY

This morning, we’ll embark on an unforgettable swim to the historic Castle Island (Bourtzi). After boarding boats at the hotel dock, we’ll make our way to a small islet near Stavros Church, nestled in the channel that separates Poros from the mainland. From there, we’ll weave through tiny islets to reach the impressive Castle of Bourtzi. This breathtaking island is just 1.5 km from our accommodation, but you’ll have the option of swimming a 3 km round trip or a shorter route, with the flexibility to combine both. This swim offers a blend of historical intrigue and mesmerising coastal views. After a well-deserved lunch, we’ll head out once more for a gentle coastal swim, perfect for stretching out your muscles and soaking up the tranquil atmosphere.

We’ll set out on an adventurous swim to the mythical Modi Island, famously shaped like a resting lion. After lunch, we’ll head out for one final afternoon swim, exploring the rugged north east coastline of before returning to Aegli for our farewell evening together.
FRIDAY
We’ll begin the day with a refreshing sunrise swim. After breakfast, we’ll prepare for departure, with check-out scheduled for 10am.
GETTING THERE

This trip officially starts at 2pm, and finishes at 10am on the final day.FLIGHTS
Athens is the nearest airport to Poros. From Athens, there are two routes to get to Poros. You can either get a ferry or hydrofoil from Piraeus Port, or you can book a private car to drive you directly to Poros.From Athens (Piraeus Port) by Ferry
- High-Speed Hydrofoil (Flying Dolphin) – 1 hour
- Regular Ferry – 2.5 hours
- Ferries depart regularly from Piraeus Port, and tickets can be booked in advance via ferry booking websites.
By Private TAXI / MINIBUS
- We can put you in touch with a local taxi firm who can provide a direct airport - Poros transfer for about 50€ per person. We will put you in touch with the swim group before the trip so that you can arrange to share a minibus should you wish.

At least three swimming costumes (putting on a wet cossie is never fun!)

Travel Insurance
As a SwimQuest guest, you are required to have in place travel insurance that covers you for all activities you will be taking part in during your trip. It is your responsibility to ensure that you are fully covered for these activities.Whatever travel policy you decide on, you will need to bring a copy of your current Certificate of Insurance to the safety briefing at the start of your SwimQuest holiday. Your swim Guides will need to take a note of your insurer, policy number and the number to call in case of an emergency claim.
Please note, if you are a UK resident and eligible for free health cover via the NHS, you do not need to take our a travel insurance policy for our UK based trips. You may still wish to take out insurance to cover you for events such as trip cancellation, luggage and personal liability.
If you are travelling from the US or another country, we suggest you use a travel insurance comparison site based in your own country in order to decide on a suitable policy.
