INHALE. EXHALE. JOIN US FOR A TRANSFORMATIVE BREATHWORK & SWIMMING WEEK ON THE IDYLLIC ISLAND OF FORMENTERA.
Do you love the water? Breathing techniques can help deepen this love for the water and help you swim further with less effort. Whether you’re preparing for an epic swim challenge or want to feel more confident in the sea, breathwork will support you. If you feel nervous or uncertain before or during a swim - or you’re curious about how breathing techniques can help with your swimming - then join us.
We are hugely excited to be collaborating with Eleanor Curtis of The Breathing Practice on the beautiful island of Formentera for a unique week that brings breathwork and open-water swimming together in a powerful, practical way. From sunrise breathwork on pristine beaches, to open water swims guided by expert coaches, and bedtime breathing for restful nights, this trip is designed to transform your stroke, calm your mind, and deepen your experience of swimming and swim travel. You’ll walk away feeling energised, empowered and connected - to yourself and to the swim community.
BENEFITS
- Gain expert-guided breath control skills that directly translate to improved swim performance, reduced anxiety, and greater enjoyment in and out of the water.
- Learn techniques to make open water swimming safer and more exhilarating.
- Benefit from practices designed to support deep relaxation, faster recovery after swims, and better sleep, empowering you to get the most from the water.
- Nourish body and soul: Each session is made to foster long-lasting wellbeing and connection with like-minded swimmers while exploring blissful surroundings.
No prior breathwork, swimming or retreat experience is needed.
All breathwork and swim sessions are guided, optional, and adapted to suit the group. Non-swimmers are absolutely welcome.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Formentera is the smallest and most laid-back of the Balearic Islands, known for its white sandy beaches, crystal-clear turquoise waters and vast stretches of protected nature reserve. Life here moves slowly, deliberately, and in tune with the rhythms of the natural world - the perfect setting for a breath-centred swim week.
This trip is designed to help you harness breathwork to improve your confidence, calm and capability in the water - whether that means easing anxiety, feeling more relaxed at depth, swimming more smoothly and efficiently, or simply enjoying the sea with greater trust and ease. Through guided breathwork sessions and fully supported swims, you’ll learn how to work with your breath both in and out of the water, and how this can transform your swimming experience, making you feel more at home in the sea.
Our home for the week is the Roca Bella Hotel, perched right on the shoreline and just a short stroll along the boardwalk into the relaxed town of Es Pujols on the island’s north coast.
IS THIS TRIP FOR ME?
Join us if:
- You’re curious about breathwork but unsure where to start
- You want to improve your confidence and ability in the water
- You want rest without switching off completely
- You feel tired, stretched or overstimulated and want to do something about it

GETTING THERE
TRAVEL TO FORMENTERA
TRIP START / FINISH TIMES
- We will meet at 3pm on Saturday for welcome and briefing. We suggest arriving in Formentera at around 1pm to give you time to check into your room and settle in before the briefing. SwimQuest head office will ask for your travel times pre tour so that our swim guides can pick you up from Formentera harbour and take you to the hotel.
- The trip finishes after breakfast and farewell sharing circle on Friday morning. Check out is at 10am. Please note, your swim guides will travel back to Ibiza on Friday morning so if you are staying on the island post checkout you may need to book a taxi back to Formentera harbour - the hotel reception can help you with this.
FLY TO IBIZA
Fly to Ibiza and then jump in a taxi from the airport to Ibiza harbour to get the ferry to Formentera (please budget approx. €15-20 for this taxi journey.) Taxis are regular just outside the airport. Tell the taxi driver you are going to get a ferry to Formentera and he / she will drop you off by the Formentera ticket kiosks. For the cheapest flight options, have a look at www.skyscanner.co.uk.FERRY FROM IBIZA TO FORMENTERA
There are a number of ferry companies offering a regular service (approx. every 30 minutes) from Ibiza to Formentera and back. Trasmappi, Balearia and Mediterranea–Pitiusa are popular options, cost the same and take the same amount of time (approx. 30-45 minute crossing). There is no need to buy a ticket in advance. Hint – when you buy a return ticket, it is worth checking that your return ferry journey allows you sufficient time to get to the airport, as you cannot transfer your ticket to another ferry provider and will have to purchase an additional single fare.WHAT DO I PACK?

Eleanor Curtis is the founder of The Breathing Practice. Eleanor brings a unique blend of techniques to her teachings stemming from her vast experience in the water as a certified freediver, scuba diver instructor, open water swimmer and competitive triathlete. She has established and teaches the Curtis Method of breathing – an amalgamation of breathing practices that bring calm to both body and mind.
Eleanor was inspired to share the goodness and benefits of breathing practice during her intensive study of breathwork while training as a freediver over the last 10 years. Her early experience and learnings of pranayama breathing techniques in her mid 20s and her teachings as a diving instructor around the same time has harnessed her own practice over many many years, and has resulted in a deep understanding of breathing and breathwork generally.
Eleanor is based in London. She worked internationally in the Middle East and Africa as journalist and photographer for many years. Later in her career, she qualified as an English lawyer and set up her own legal consultancy specialising in family law in 2014. As a comment on her legal work, she says “I have seen it all” witnessing first hand the dramatic and sometimes negative impact family change can have on individuals, but at the same time observing how breathwork can empower and boost emotional resilience in such difficult circumstances. Eleanor divides her time between her legal consultancy and on developing and teaching the Curtis Method of breathing, both online and in-person at dedicated breathwork retreats and workshops.
Eleanor is passionate about ocean conservation and sits as a Trustee on the Board of The Manta Trust, a UK based charity dedicated to a sustainable future for the oceans where manta rays thrive.
