We’ve designed this trip carefully to give you the perfect combination of activity and relaxation. Think cossies, flip-flops, salt-crusted hair, cracked conch and breathtaking turquoise swimming.

Based at the apartments run by Troy and Maria at Dive Guana, this is a chilled-out, sociable week with unbeatable local knowledge behind it. Swims are a mixture of stunning reef and coastal swims, each escorted by a main boat and a tender with ample room for anyone who wants a swim break to soak up the sun. Swim both swims a day or just one – it’s your holiday. In September 2019, Hurricane Dorian sat over these islands as a Category 5 storm and took most of them apart. The rebuild has been slow, stubborn and entirely local, and the Abacos are now very much open again. We are so excited to be back.

Highlights

Expert local knowledge

Troy and Maria know every reef, sandbar and turtle on this coastline - and have spent years protecting them. Your swim guides work alongside Dive Guana to ensure you have the best possible week!

The Sea of Abaco

The Abaco islands are a chain of small cays sheltering a shallow, protected lagoon called the Sea of Abaco - a flat turquoise paradise for swimmers.

Unforgettable wildlife encounters

Green turtles grazing the seagrass beds, southern stingrays gliding over the sandbanks, and coral heads thick with parrotfish and sergeant majors. Perhaps even an encounter with the Bahamas famous 'swimming pigs'!

Nippers and Grabbers

Two legendary, rebuilt beach bars within walking distance of where we're staying. Grabbers for the sunset, Nippers for the famous cocktails!

Itinerary

Day 1

Arrival and acclimatisation

You are welcome to arrive any time after 3pm on Sunday. A SwimQuest representative will meet you at Great Guana Cay jetty when you arrive and take you to your guesthouse. You can settle into your room, and then meet your fellow guests and guides for an evening meal and your safety briefing.
Day 2

Great Guana exploration

On Monday morning, we will complete a coastal swim (1-2km) along the southern coastline of Great Guana. This sheltered coastline is an ideal spot to get a feel for the water and find your groove. Your swim guides can also (if you wish) film you swimming above and below the water so that we can provide coaching advice later on in the evening. In the afternoon, we will venture south to explore the stunning white sandbars that sit below Great Guana.
Day 3

Scotland Cay

This morning we board the boats and head south towards Scotland Cay, attempting a beautiful 3km swim along the islands southern shoreline. We will find a beach for a packed lunch after which there will be time to let the food settle before a second swim - keep an eye out for rays an turtles!
