A swim for nature

Wild Swim Mission: Miranda Richardson & Maggie Service Take on the Norfolk Coast with SwimQuest

Two friends, one bold mission: if we protect nature, it protects us.
On 9 August, award-winning actor and WWF Ambassador Miranda Richardson and actor Maggie Service completed a challenging 4km Wild Swim Mission from Blakeney Harbour to Pinchen’s Creek — raising vital funds for WWF’s work to protect and restore the UK’s precious coastal ecosystems, rivers and wetlands.

The swim was part of WWF’s A Prescription for Nature campaign, which encourages people to get outside in nature to support both wellbeing and the planet.

SwimQuest’s Role: From Vision to Victory

The Wild Swim Mission was conceived, planned, and executed with SwimQuest leading on:

  • Route design — choosing a stretch that showcased Norfolk’s wild beauty while meeting safety and tidal conditions.

  • Training & advice — preparing Miranda and Maggie for waves, currents, and long-distance endurance.

  • On-the-day safety & logistics — including safety boats, kayakers, tidal monitoring, and full swim event management.

Wow – what an amazing organisation to work with! Alice and John have been absolutely incredible from planning the route for our WWF Wild Swim Mission, through to the training, encouragement, and flawless execution on the day. They consistently went above and beyond the call of duty, making the whole experience unforgettable. I cannot recommend SwimQuest highly enough and look forward to working with them again.

Despite clear skies, wind over tide made for choppy, testing conditions — but the duo dug deep and pushed through, finishing to warm embraces and cheers from friends, family, and the SwimQuest team.

We are so grateful to Miranda and Maggie for taking on this inspiring wild swim challenge to raise vital funds for WWF – and what an amazing achievement. Their commitment shines a spotlight on the importance of protecting nature right here in the UK, and also taking the time to connect with it ourselves.
