Tom Hawkins
Tom brings a lifetime of coastal knowledge, environmental expertise, and local insight to the SwimQuest team. Tom’s role as the Senior Foreshore Officer for Harbour and Foreshore Services at Canterbury City Council involves managing beach environments, supporting coastal communities, and leading marine conservation and education initiatives along the Kent coastline.
Recognised by national publications including Coast Magazine as a “Coast Character,” he is passionate about helping people connect with the sea safely and responsibly. A keen open water swimmer and lifelong coastal advocate, Tom combines professional expertise with an infectious enthusiasm for the ocean. Tom also head up the SwimQuest safety refresher training weekends in the autumn.
The sea, the ocean, and being in the water in general are my happy place, whatever I'm doing. It's been that way for as long as I can remember. I'm incredibly fortunate – and hugely grateful – to be able to call these environments my office too.
