With a maximum of 25 participants each day, our popular river swims are not races, but instead a chance to meet likeminded swimmers and enjoy the English Countryside at its finest. 6-6.5km is an ideal distance to aim for, or as preparation for a 10km swim (many of our guests use the River Arun as a warm up for the Dart 10k.) If you’re at all worried about whether these swims are suitable for you, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
2018 dates: Saturday 28th July, Sunday 29th July, Saturday 11th August , Sunday 12th August (bookable via Aspire only), Saturday 8th September, Sunday 9th September, Saturday 22nd September
The Arun is a beautiful river set in idyllic countryside. This is an excellent chance to complete a tidal-assisted, relaxed non mass-start swim and soak up the English countryside at its finest. At approximately 6.5km, you could use this swim as something to aim for, as a way of training for a longer event, or simply as a unique way to experience rural Sussex. If you are keen to complete a mid-distance swim, and would like to return to work on Monday morning having made the most of your weekend, then this swim is most definitely for you!
2018 dates: Sunday 23 September only
The name Cuckmere is thought to derive from a Middle English word for ‘fast flowing’. Much like our River Arun Swim, this swim makes full use of the tide, as we wend our way through the South Down’s Way, passing the famous chalk horse on the hillside, and eventually finishing at The Cuckmere Inn, in time for lunch. This swim is suitable for confident open water swimmers only, as the river is narrow and reedy in places, especially at our starting point in Alfriston. The idea is to swim, float and enjoy, not to race!
