EGYPT OVERVIEW

The Red Sea is arguably one of the world’s most fascinating natural seascape environments, boasting more species of fish than any other proportional body of water. With an abundance of colourful marine life and lavish coral reefs, on this trip expect to share the water with rays, sharks (harmless!) and maybe even a pod of playful dolphins.

THE LIVEABOARD EXPERIENCE

Emperor Asmaa This tour has been designed as a live-aboard to give us the best possible access to the swimming spots in the Red Sea. Your home for the week will be the Marine Yacht Emperor Asmaa. This vessel will be our ‘hotel’ for the week, and in addition we will be accompanied by a wet boat and a safety RIB. Emperor Asmaa is a 30m custom built liveaboard. All rooms are equipped with en suite bathrooms, mini bars and towels. Upper deck cabins have large windows with views over the ocean. Decorated in contemporary style, the boat has an air conditioned salon and bar area, and a sundeck with loungers for sun bathing, kicking back or sunrise yoga. Click on the ‘accommodation’ tab for more information and pictures.

ITINERARY

N.B. There are two planned swims per day based on how you progress during the week. Please realise that what we have detailed below is only a rough guide to the week and that we will adapt the week carefully for each individual and the weather conditions. All swim activities are planned with safety as the paramount concern. Open water swimming is always governed by tides and weather; so planned swims may need to be changed, depending on the conditions at the time. Swim guides will advise you each day on what is best for you, but in all cases guides will encourage you to achieve your personal goals in safe conditions.

Thursday

Our representative will meet you in the arrivals area of Marsa Alam airport. You will then be transferred by coach to Quesir where MY Asmaa will be waiting for you to board. Once everyone is on board and settled in, we will assemble in the ship’s lounge for the safety briefing.

Friday

REEF EGYPTIn the early hours, the ship’s anchor will be lifted and we will cruise north towards Safaga whilst we have breakfast. After breakfast, we will start with an easy swim within and around a large reef. Whilst you kick back and enjoy lunch, Asmaa will venture further north towards a group of islets where we will complete a circumnavigation of Jazirat Umm Ajawish al Kubra Island (approx. 1km – 1.5km).

Saturday

TURTLE 2 EGYPTIn the morning, we will travel to ‘Paradise Island’ where we will swim along the east coastline (approx. 2km) finishing at Mahmya bay. Over lunch, Asmaa will cruise north again, towards Jazirat Shakir with an opportunity to complete a longer coastal swim (up to 4km) for those who wish.

Sunday

Images courtesy of Emperor Divers In the morning we have the opportunity to swim around the beautiful Siyul Saghira reef before we travel north to Jazirat Jubal for our second swim.

Monday

MANTA EGYPTThis morning Asmaa will travel to Ras Mohamed, one of the best kept National Parks in Egypt and as such one of the most famous diving sites in the world. Our first swim of the day will be a 2-3km swim, and after lunch there will be an opportunity for a relaxed ‘snorkel swim’.

Tuesday

TURTLE EGYPTToday Asmaa will stay in the Ras Mohamed area, offering a swim in either Marsa Bareika or on another fringing wall depending on conditions. In the afternoon, the boat will venture back towards Jazirat Jubal for a circumnavigation of this island (optional 5km).

Wednesday

DOLPHIN EGYPTToday we ill visit the famous horseshoe shaped reef of Shaab El Erg; a beautiful hard coral garden and, if we keep our fingers and toes crossed, maybe even the chance to see dolphins. We will start to head South around lunchtime and pick up a chance for a further swim or snorkel around the Safaga area before returning to Asmaa to enjoy your final dinner and night onboard. The boat will sail South this evening to the port of El Quesir where we will disembark the following morning.

Thursday

One final breakfast on board before saying goodbye to the crew, and a short boat ride back to Quesir for your transfer back to the airport.
