Costa Brava SwimQuest

When we visited this coastline in 2016, we were instantly blown away by this region's wild, rugged beauty. On this trip we will explore the southern section of the Costa Brava, taking in dramatic cliffs; coves; islets; beautiful sandy beaches and secret caves, as well as the northern Cap de Creus Natural Park. During the first part of the week, our swims will be based in the picturesque southern region, starting off with a swim from our base beach, Platja D’Aro, and growing more adventurous throughout the week, with swims of approximately 5km / day (split into two swims). On the final day (weather permitting) we will visit the Cap de Creus area for a fun ‘Challenge Day’ with an opportunity to take part in three swims, with an approximate total distance of 8km. Don’t forget to check out the itinerary tab for more information about the swim locations.

Our base for the week is Platja d’Aro, a historical coastal town with its own beautiful sandy beach, surrounded by pines, flowers and cobbled streets.

Vies Braves and SwimQuest Vies Braves is a new and unique project which has been set up in association with the Spanish Costa Brava Tourist Board to provide safe, boat-free swim areas along the Catalonian Coastline. A series of “tracks”, from 500m to 2km long, in the water off the coast have been buoyed off from boats, so we can explore the coast safely, swimming from beach to beach, and cove to cove. This week is designed to make the most of some of our favourite swim stretches in this region, culminating in a fun challenge day (you are of course able to swim as much or as little of this as you like - it’s your holiday!) All swims will be fully supported and escorted by SwimQuest guides in kayaks (motor boats are not permitted inside the swim lanes).

  • Groups with varying speed / distance / ability levels - take part in as much or as little as you like.
  • Non swimming partners and friends - all swims are coastal, and many swims have beautiful coastal paths which provide a wonderful walking alternative for your non-swimming partners if they wish
  • Anyone who hasn’t been to this area before - an absolute must for open water swimmers, let us blow you away!

SwimQuest Costa Brava locations Your itinerary for the week is entirely based on the weather and your ability. We do not provide a day by day itinerary as swim locations will be based on the weather - we will choose the best swim spots for the weather on that day. On this page you will find a selection of the swims which you could complete during the trip. Most days involve a morning and afternoon swim, with lunch in between, either at a beachside café or back at the hotel. You can complete as many or as few of the swims as you wish. For many of these routes, you may even be able to walk the coastal path running parallel to the swim. The Cap de Creus Challenge on the final day is meant to be fun - and you are welcome to take part in as much or as little swimming on this day as you like. In the event the weather is too rough on the northern coast, we will re-schedule swims to the southern coast nearer Platja d’Aro.
